Info about the creator.
This site is purely hobbyist. It came about
because many people sent me photographs of caterpillars to
identify, and while I have a limited knowledge, I couldn't
identify them all.
I purchased some books, and after contemplating
the enormity of such a site, creation started, using the books
as reference. ( In other words, I have read and digested the
information and to the best of my ability have given accurate
description and details of the species. Any corrections, please
email me)
I am not an expert, but am always willing to appear on radio
talk shows, or accept an interview for newspapers or magazines.
This site is *almost complete. Over 800 species of caterpillars
of the British Isles are named, described and pictured*
I have the permission from the authors and artists of the
Collins Field Guide to Caterpillars to use their images and
am eternally grateful.
A recent great buy is the book 'Caterpillars
of the British Isles' by Jim Porter. Some information I didn't
have has been gleaned form this marvelous book.
*I am currently seeking the
publishers and author for permission to use their photographs.
If anyone has the information needed to contact them, please
let me know! I would be extremely grateful to make this site
complete with photographs of all the species. It is a unique
site.
Many thanks for all your comments on the site,
it is brilliant to know that it has helped you identify and
learn about caterpillars. Long may it continue.
